Voice of customer B2B: mine your sales calls and emails

Voice of customer in B2B lives in your sales calls and emails, far more than in your surveys. Where to listen, example quotes, and how to count what comes back.

Updated on October 21, 2026

Voice of customer in B2B (VoC) is everything your customers say about their needs, their blockers and your offer. You want to set it up in a small sales team, without sending yet another survey.

Good news: it already exists. Your customers talk every week in your calls, your demos and your emails. All that is left is to organise those conversations and count what keeps coming back.

Why are surveys not enough for B2B customer feedback?

The usual reflex is NPS: a 0 to 10 score on "would you recommend us?", sent every quarter. The score goes up or down, and nobody knows why.

  • Few customers answer, and rarely the ones who leave.
  • Lost prospects are never in it.
  • You ask the questions. A call reveals what matters to the customer, including what you never thought of.

A survey asks customers what they think. A conversation lets them say what matters to them.

Where do you hear the voice of customer in sales calls?

The conversationWhat you learn there
The discovery callThe problem in their words, what makes them look now
The demoWhat lands, what is missing, the competitors mentioned
Negotiation emailsThe real blockers: budget, sign-off, timing
Follow-up meetingsActual usage, requests, early signs of churn

The first call matters all the more because buyers show up late. The 2025 6sense report places first contact with a vendor at 61% of the buying journey. What the prospect asks you then shows what they have already read about you.

Voice of customer examples

  • Need. "We spend Monday morning stitching together the numbers from each branch."
  • Objection. "Our IT team will not approve anything that does not plug into our CRM."
  • Criterion. "If my reps have to type anything, they will not use it."
  • Competitor. "We are also looking at the tool our parent company uses."

These lines are typical examples, not real quotes. Each one says more than a 7 out of 10: a problem, a criterion or a blocker, in the customer's own words.

Voice of customer analysis methods: four steps

  • Attach every conversation to a customer. A call sitting in one rep's folder only helps that rep.
  • Spot the passages that matter: need, objection, decision criterion, competitor mentioned.
  • Count customers, not mentions. A customer who brings up an integration ten times is still one customer.
  • Keep the sentence. A number without a quote gets debated, a quote settles it.

Then share one page a month: the three topics on the rise, two quotes each. Sales gets its objections, marketing the words for its pages, product the requests with a count.

Listening without rereading everything

That is the work we do for you. Every conversation joins its customer's file: calls and video meetings recorded with the Chrome extension on Google Meet, Zoom or Teams in the browser, audio or video files, notes. Each rep can also connect their mailbox: only emails exchanged with a known customer address are kept, the others are dropped on receipt.

Each conversation is cut into tagged passages: objections, competitors, criteria, next steps. The assistant counts the themes across all your customers and quotes every passage.

Ask what keeps coming back from your customers

Ask a question such as “which needs come up most this quarter?”. The assistant counts and shows you your customers' words.

Frequently asked questions

What is voice of customer in B2B?

It is what your customers and prospects say about their needs, their blockers and your offer, gathered to guide sales, marketing and product. In B2B, the best source is the sales conversation.

What does a voice of customer quote look like?

A sentence from a customer, quoted as they said it. A typical example: "If my reps have to type anything, they will not use it."

What is the difference between voice of customer and NPS?

NPS is a recommendation score collected by survey. The voice of customer explains the reasons behind that score, from what customers actually say.

How do you analyse hundreds of calls?

By cutting each conversation into tagged passages (objection, need, competitor), then counting how many customers express each theme, with the quotes to back it.

Is it GDPR compliant?

Yes, if you tell the people you talk to that the call is recorded and keep only conversations with your customers.
